No extra tight security after murder of priest

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chief of Regional/Wirabuana Military Command VII Major General Arif Budi Sampoerno said the authorities would not take extra-tight security precautions after the murder of Rev Irianto Kongkoli in sectarian conflict-torn Poso, Central Sulawesi, on Monday morning. "The Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) is ready to provide assistance to the police in maintaining security and in catching the perpetrators of the assassination of Rev Irianto Kongkoli, who is also secretary of the Central Sulawesi Synod," he said when contacted by ANTARA News. But he said he had not received any request from the police to help maintain security on the occasion of the Idul Fitri post-fasting festivities and catch the murderer of the priest. He said that TNI and the police had already established a good cooperation in maintaining stability in Poso, including in uncovering the terrorist network which had disrupted peace in the Central Sulawesi town. "We have often conducted joint patrols and exchanged intelligence information in maintaining peace and stability and in handling various cases such as the riots after the execution of Tibo and friends," the military commander said. Kongkoli was shot to death by an unidentified gunman when he was visiting the "Sinar Sakti" building materials store on Jalan Wolter Monginsidi in Poso.
