Bali preparing for 2002 bombing anniversary

Denpasar (ANTARA News) - The Balinese are preparing an event in Kuta to observe the anniversary of the first Bali bombings in the beach resort on October 12, 2002.

"The event will be highlighted with a reflection speech by Gde Parma and a vigil," the chief of the Kuta Community Empowerment Institute, Alit Ardana, said here on Monday.

The "Pusaka" Anti-Violence Movement from Jakarta in cooperation with the Bali Journalists Society meanwhile plan to put up a 12-kilometer long and 90 centimer wide white banner along the road from Banjar Sandhi to Ground Zero to symbolize purity of the heart in fighting for peace across the world to prevent the recurrence of terrorism especially in Bali and in other parts of the country.

Around 600 people will conduct a march for peace in Kuta. A statement for peace will be read by representatives from Bali, Indonesia and the world.

The chairman of the Bali Journalists Society, Ida Bagus Anom Putra, said "it was time for newsmen to give a significant contribution especially in the fight against terrorism."
