Maumere under control now

Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - The security situation in Maumere district`s capital of Sikka in Flores island, East Nusa Tenggara province, is under control before the arrival (scheduled today) of Dominggus da Silva`s body from Denpasar, Bali. "The security situation is under control although thousands of people take to the street to welcome Dominggus` body," spokesman for the East Nusa Tenggara provincial police Commissioner Marthen Radja told ANTARA here Sunday. According to Marthen, the provincial police chief Brig.Gen. Robertus Belarminus Sadarum has been in Maumere since Saturday (Sept 23) and met with local religious and public leading figures to talk about ways to prevent people from committing anarchic acts. He expressed hope the people could take part in the religious procession bringing Dominggus` body to the graveyard but would not acts which could disturb the security condition in the district. A resident of Maumere, Bernadus Kopong, said the main road on which the ambulance carrying Dominggus` body will pass is already crowded by thousands of people who are standing along the road orderly. A police officer told ANTARA that the aircraft carrying Dominggus` body was scheduled to arrive in Waloti airport at 12.30 (local time) from Denpasar, Bali.
